If you ask me what I came into this world to do, I will tell you; I came to live out loud.

Angry and Frustrated in NC

I am so angry. So frustrated. I'm sitting in bed, crying in rage and fury.

NC just passed the most suppressive voting restrictions in the country. Restrictive rules on women's health. On the poor.

This is not what my country is about. Not what we should settle for. The GOP sold itself to it's corporate.masters and to hell with the people they are supposed to represent.

It's about power. Shaming. Punishing. Control. They don't care a damn about women's health, about helping people, about making it easy to exercise constitutional rights like voting. But I have a feeling they see the end coming and are desperately trying to cheat their way into keeping power.

But know what I'm going to do? I'm going to spend the next year getting people registered to vote. And I'm going to volunteer to drive people to the polls. I'm going to donate money to the ACLU so they can take you to court. I'm going to support Planned Parenthood and help women get health care.

I'm going to watch you sink yourselves. I'm going to watch justice win in the end. And my kid will see that he has power, too. And there will be another generation getting ready to vote...And they will know the power of that vote.

I will not leave for my kid a world less free than the one I was born in. Will. Not.

You have struck a rock.

via Facebook... My umbrella and me, All pink and protesty

Darlene Pineda

via Facebook... So I have a pink umbrella, and I will use it to offer myself shade AND be all protesty! So...what do I write on it? I'd love to draw something but my drawing skills are limited to using a ruler to make a stick figure. And I suppose I could have several messages on it, really. TOO MANY CHOICES! HALP!

Darlene Pineda

via Facebook... Midnight munchies. Sadly, no more chocolate bars hiding in the desk :( I could eat chips, but then I'd need a soda. And to get a soda I need to go to the garage. Which means finding the slippers I hid so Timber wouldn't eat them. Then I'd need a glass of ice, which means going to the kitchen. Timber would come with me, and since we'd only be a few feet away, he'd go to the sliding glass doors and give me That Look. And since I did wake him I'd feel bad so we'd go outside. Misha will have noticed I'm gone and will now come outside, too. Which means waiting for her to do the perimeter sniff. Which would give me time to throw the ball for Timber. Finally we'd get inside, I'd grab my chips and soda and head to bed. Where every bite would include eyes. Eyes, staring. Following every crumb. This sounds like a book. "If you give Darlene a chip, she'll want a soda..."

You don’t get to cherry pick.” Hundreds joined and flooded their phone lines, email boxes and twitter to ask anything from what they should eat for lunch to whether they should use tampons or pads to whether they should consider changing birth control. UniteWomen.org contacted Beth and is taking her idea national starting tomorrow with “Need Your Permission”. So much anti-women legislation has been introduced/passed in many states since 2011 and now passed in the U.S. House of Representatives." http://samuel-warde.com/2013/07/need-your-permission-goes-nationwide-with-the-help-of-unitewomen-org-one-person-can-make-a-difference/

via Facebook... From a friend...this sums it up pretty well. That girl you called a slut in class today. She enjoys sex and has slept with a few people. And that's none of your business. The pregnant girl walking down the street. She had unprotected sex with her boyfriend and got knocked up. And that's none of your business. The boy you called lame. He spends most nights in his room playing video games. And that's none of your goddamn business. That girl you pushed down the other day - wait, what? You go around pushing people down? What the fuck is wrong with you? Are you some kind of savage? Jesus. Anyway, that girl you called fat - she eats whatever the hell she wants to, because it's her body and that's none. Of. Your. Business. The old man you made fun of cause of his ugly scars. Okay. I just - were you raised by wolves? Particularly ill-mannered wolves? Who were also assholes? I don't care if the old man got the scars in WW2 or Korea or from that time his meth pipe blew up in his face. You don't go around making fun of people. This is basic stuff that you learn in kindergarten. You think you know them . Guess what? It doesn't matter if you do or don't. You treat people the way that you would like to be treated. It's not about whether or not someone is going to jump off of a bridge because of your hateful, pricktastic comments, it's that making hateful, pricktastic comments makes you a hateful prick. And if you can't manage to function in society without going around being hateful prick to people, maybe you should go back to the rude asshole wolves who raised you. Sound fair? --Debbie Holden

via Facebook... "Them as can do has to do for them as can't. And someone has to speak up for them A's has no voices." — Terry Pratchett (The Wee Free Men)

Darlene Pineda

via Facebook... Today was a great lesson in intersectionality: Planned Parenthood and NARAL along with the NAACP of NC and Democracy NC, along with others. What do we want? Justice. What do we want? Women's rights. What do we want? Voter's rights. What do we want? Health care. What do we want? Education. Forward together, not one step back. I love it! I was able to speak at Gov. McCrory's office. Why do these rights matter to me? My mother's family is Jewish, escaped from Romania in 1938. My father grew up in Nicaragua, under the Samosa regime. He became a citizen the same year I turned 18, and together we went to vote, for the first time. Do not make their immigration pointless. Do take away freedoms, from anyone.

Darlene Pineda

via Facebook... Democracy is hard. It is still worth it. Never let them take it away from you. Forward together. Not one step back.

Darlene Pineda

via Facebook... Leaving Raleigh...we sang, wert chanted, we marched, we spoke. We made our voices heard.

Darlene Pineda

via Facebook... I slept through the start of the revolution, but am drinking some caffeine and will make my way shortly I suspect this will be an all-day thing. The Teen is off filling up the car. So if anyone wants to join me and is near by or can be in the next 30 minutes or so, let me know...

Darlene Pineda

via Facebook... Night. Need to try and wake up early enough to protest in Raleigh. #ncga had best behave!

Darlene Pineda

via Facebook... Timber is trying to figure out a bagel. He holds a piece in his mouth, then drops it. They get a good staring. He licks them, nibbles on them. Takes them in his mouth for a few seconds, spits them out, goes through the process again. And he was a New York dog? Shameful!

Tuesday, July 2, 2013

Darlene Pineda

via Facebook... Anyone local or between ecity and Raleigh....I have room for two more in my car if someone wants to join us. We'll be leaving before 6, so get up with me soon! We will take #ncga by storm.

Darlene Pineda

via Facebook... Anyone in the Scott area, I have room for two in my car to drive down and show #ncga that they can't pass anti-women laws behind our backs. If you are on the way or in town and need a ride, let me know...

Darlene Pineda

via Facebook... So I tell the teen about #ncga trying to pull a fast one on abortion laws. There is a pause, and he says "what time do we need to be there?" And I say "starts at 9 am" and he says "I'll be up at 4:30 to get the car gassed up." Have I told you lately how much I love this kid? How many teenaged young men are that aware and that willing to be part of the process? To stand for all women? This is one amazing awesome kid, and I am so proud to be his stepmom and have a part in helping him grow into the man he is becoming. My heart is full knowing he wants to march next to me. My little boy is a man. I'd sniffle but he'd get all embarrassed...So I'll remind him to wear clean clothes and comfy shoes! Might need to break out the Danskos. Layers, because jails are chilly. Bring my ACLU membership card. Not planning to be arrested but its a possibility. My kid is a hero. A small one today, doing small acts of heroics. Today. Tomorrow...he will change the world, this kid will. So proud of him! I guess all that homeschooling left him so unsocialized he's compelled to take part in active defense of his civic duties. I'll take that as a win.

Darlene Pineda

via Facebook... 9am tomorrow, at the #NCGA

Darlene Pineda

via Facebook... My new favorite word: mumpsimus PRONUNCIATION: (MUMP-suh-muhs) MEANING: noun: 1. A view stubbornly held in spite of clear evidence that it's wrong. 2. A person who holds such a view. ETYMOLOGY: According to an old story, a priest used the nonsense word mumpsimus (instead of Latin sumpsimus) in the Mass. Even when told it was incorrect, he insisted that he had been saying it for 40 years and wouldn't change it. The expression is "quod in ore sumpsimus" ('which we have taken into the mouth'). Earliest documented use: 1530.
